Worry is a futile emotion. Apart from creating stress and anguish it achieves little. To say “I’m worried about climate change” does not actually improve the situation at all. It certainly brings about changes in your mood and physiology but nothing is achieved.

Substitute the word worry for more practical words such as planning or strategies. The sentence above then changes to “I’m developing personal strategies for dealing with climate change” or “I’m planning action that will encourage legislators to take the issue more seriously“.

Another good substitute word for worry is talk. “I’m going to talk to my friends about what we can personally do to alleviate climate change.”

Resolve today to never use the W word again. Erase worry from your vocabulary and blank it out in your dictionary. There is no point to worrying.
